Referencing

It is expected that all students will submit their own original work for assessments and not be solely composed from secondary sources. All secondary materials and resources must be correctly acknowledged or referenced.  Failure to correctly reference sources whether intentional or unintentional is considered plagiarism. Acts of plagiarism are regarded very seriously by the College. Depending upon the severity of the offence, penalties will apply. These range from loss of marks to cancellation of your enrolment.

Referencing your sources:

  • Allows your lecturer to verify the information you use
  • Can indicate the depth of research you have carried out
  • Assists you in avoiding plagiarism

The referencing formats used at the College are either Harvard or APA.  Check with your lecturer which format they prefer you to use.

Detailed guides for both formats are available for purchase or loan from the Learning Resource Centre.  Your lecturer may also arrange for an information session to be conducted by the Learning Resources Coordinator.  Check with your lecturer for details.
