Rain Water Reuse in Toilets

Location: L Block Toilets

'What!  Rain water is flushed down the toilets!

We know that it is a waste to flush rain water down the toilet, but is it worse than flushing fresh drinking water down the toilet?

Next time you flush the toilet or wash your hands at Durack, you could be using rain water.

How Does This System Work?

When rain falls upon the L Block toilets roof, the initial run off diverts into a “first flush” system to eliminate any potential pollutants i.e., leaves, sand etc.

Any additional rainwater enters into the 3800L water tank which is then used to flush the toilets and provide hand washing facilities.

When the tank level reduces to 1/3, a probe switches the use from rainwater to scheme water.
