Celebrating Finalist Status at Australian Training Awards

30 November 2015

The 22nd Annual Australian Training Awards were held on November 19 in Hobart and celebrated the highest achievers from across Australia who are making an outstanding contribution to providing Australians with skills for the future.

Large Training Provider of the Year Award Finalist

The Awards recognise those in the vocational education and training (VET) sector who are improving our nation’s workforce because of their exceptional contribution to skills development.

Durack is proud to announce that it was selected as one of three finalists in the Large Training Provider of the Year category at the Australian Training Awards.

Winning the 2015 Western Australia Large Training Provider of the Year award earlier in September had enabled Durack to represent the State at the national awards.

There was tough competition in this category. Durack competed against Verto Ltd from New South Wales and Wodonga Institute of TAFE from Victoria; all providers servicing the needs of regional Australia.

Although Durack did not win the Large Training Provider category, becoming a finalist at the Australian Training Awards means Durack is recognised Australia-wide as a national leader in skills, training and workforce development.

An independent evaluator visited the Geraldton Campus, providing Durack the opportunity to showcase its training facilities and team. Focus groups including students and industry partners met with the independent evaluator to highlight Durack’s approach to ensuring clients get a rich, high quality training experience.

There are a number of key areas that Durack focuses on to ensure the best outcomes for their clients.

  • Durack works closely with employers to ensure graduates have the skills needed for the workforce.
  • Durack has also established key partnerships with industry and in the community to provide students with the real life training experiences so vital to being job ready.
  • Investment in new facilities and equipment for training, and in professional development for staff, ensures students have access to the best possible training experience. This is evidenced up by student satisfaction rates continuing to be above 90%.

Bill Swetman, Managing Director commented that over the years Durack has worked very hard to establish itself as a successful, award winning training provider for the Mid West and Gascoyne regions.

"We have been a finalist in several categories on a number of occasions and have won the WA Large Training Provider of the Year category previously.

The application process is a fantastic opportunity for staff to reflect on the innovative training programs and business systems Durack has put in place, and to showcase the success of our students", Mr Swetman said.
