2010 Forum

The second annual Midwest Education, Training & Workforce Development Forum is upcoming on the 27th October and is set to be a larger and more informative event thanks to the support and involvement of local businesses.

The organisers, Durack Institute of Technology, Geraldton Iron Ore Alliance, Midwest Chamber of Commerce, Midwest Development Commission, Small Business Centre Midwest, Geraldton Universities Centre and the Geraldton Regional Community Education Centre identified the need for a forum focused on industry involvement and collaboration opportunities in the Midwest.

Therefore, the purpose of the forum is to draw together a range of education, training, employment service providers and industry representatives to provide information about the many programs and projects happening in the region relating to workforce development.

There will be 12 presentations made by representatives of local businesses covering the topics of maximizing the skills of the current workforce, pathways to employment, apprenticeships & traineeships and upskilling and higher level training for the regional workforce. Minister for Energy; Training & Workforce Development the Hon. Peter Collier MLC will be presenting the keynote address and officially opening the Forum.

It is anticipated that approximately 150 people will attend the event at Towns Football Club.

The post 2009 event survey told the organizers that 100% of the attendees thought that attending the Forum was beneficial to both them and their organisation.

Chairman of the Forum steering Committee, Mr Bert Beevers said, “The 2010 Midwest Education, Training and Workforce Development Forum will stimulate thought, discussion and planning on the best ways we, state Government agencies, industry and community, can work together to better prepare for the exciting challenges of the forecasted sustainable economic growth and employment demand”.

Mr Beevers continued, “It is collaboration opportunities such as the Forum which provide an avenue for discussion, debate and the development of partnerships focusing on a coordinated approach to education, training, industry partnerships and employment in the Midwest.”
