Count me in Awards

Durack Institute of Technology students can now enjoy the renovations in the wheelchair accessible residential unit on the Durack Geraldton Campus. The impressive upgrade of the Access Unit was made possible through the  Commonwealth's Better TAFE Facilities program that is part of the Australian Government's Building the Nation infrastructure program.

The Access Unit was named as a finalist in the 2010 Count me in Awards and received 'Highly Commended' recognition at the presentation evening.

The Access Unit is one of 12 self contained units in the Residential Village on the Durack Geraldton Campus. Students are eligible for consideration to reside at the Village if they are:

  • Studying full time
  • on block release
  • in an intensive course block
  • or are an enrolled student as determined by Durack.

Each unit has four bedrooms, kitchen, lounge, dining room and bathroom facilities. The Access Unit has been upgraded to include a spacious and very usable bathroom and kitchen with a lowered bench, sink and cooktop. Stiudents can cook for themselves or can order weekday meals from the campus canteen.

Living in a supportive community with fellow students from a variety of backgrounds is a valuable experience for all involved. A residential supervisor lives on campus to manage the Village and respond to student needs. The supervisor also involves the students in social BBQ nights and weekend activities.

For more information contact the Residential Village Supervisor, Barbara Stoney on 9956 2760.
