Durack Institute of Technology's environmental sustainablity efforts have once again been recognised, being named winner of the Community and Regional Initiatives Award at the Sustainable Energy Association's Excellence and Innovation Awards held as part of the Energising South East Asia Conference in Perth on Thursday 24 March 2011.
In addition to demonstrating energy savings despite 17% growth in student numbers, Durack also demonstrated innovation and excellence in its use of renewable energy including its wind turbine and solar panel array.
The Institute's Managing Director, Bert Beevers attributed the award to Durack's holistic approach to sustainablity and efforts to embed sustainablity in the culture of the Institute.
"We also highlighted our achievements related to water and waste reduction, and within that, the related professional development of staff flowing from our Workforce Development Plan."
"This award is a tribute to the many people involved in our Sustainability programs and in particular the members of our Energy, Water and Waste Committees and our Sustainability Promotion and Education Committee," said Mr Beevers.
This award adds to a list of Environmental Sustainability credits achieved by Durack in 2010. These include:
