GERALDTON IRON ORE ALLIANCE COMMUNITY, CAREERS AND TRAINING EXPO
Durack Institute of Technology Geraldton will be the venue for the third annual Geraldton Iron Ore Alliance Community Careers and Training Expo on this Thursday 5th August from 9.00am to 4.00pm. This crucial event is the only one of its kind to be held in the region each year and, importantly, is at no cost for attendees or exhibitors to participate.
The initiative will be open to all members of the community and our youth for the opportunity to be exposed to local, state and national emerging industries, areas of skills shortages and study and career pathways into these areas. There will be opportunities to network with local employers, training providers and government organisations involved in employment, training and career development.
In excess of 55 exhibitors are expected to participate in the expo, including industries such as mining, community services, health, transport and logistics, agri-foods, hospitality, marine, job network agencies, registered and group training organizations and local indigenous training and employment schemes. Many of the displays will have a hands on theme, giving attendees the opportunity to try their hand at science experiments, bricklaying, health, IT and much more! There will also be entertainment including a fashion parade, interactive activities and various competitions throughout the day.
CEO of the Geraldton Iron Ore Alliance, Mr Rob Jefferies said “This is a perfect opportunity for all regional industries to promote the vast range of training and career options available in the Mid West.”
“As our region may face escalating shortages of skills and people, our most effective strategy is to develop the capacity of our local people and in particular to develop and retain the talented young people within the region”.
