Local Police Get Skills Recognised

Durack Institute of Technology have partnered with the Geraldton and Surrounding Districts Police Force for the second year in a row to facilitate skills recognition in the Advanced Diploma of Management qualification.

This year approximately ten police officers and detectives will graduate with the qualification after participating in the skills recognition process.

Managing Director of Durack Institute of Technology, Mr Bert Beevers said, “This partnership gives the police officers the opportunity to gain new skills and have their current skills recognised in the form of a nationally recognised qualification, increasing prospects for promotion in the future and / or studies at degree level”. Mr Beevers continued “It also enables Durack Lecturers to operate in work places and become familiar with current work practices making it a win win situation for all involved”.

Lecturer in Management, Kelli Gordon said, “The officers had their current skills recognised in the areas of strategic planning, managing organisational change, providing leadership, development and implementation of policy, establishing and maintaining networks, managing innovation, continuous improvement and managing risks”.

As people complete everyday work tasks they acquire knowledge and skills that may be used to provide them with recognition to achieve qualifications. You may be eligible for a full qualification or part of a qualification. The process for Skills Recognition maps national competency standards to workplace tasks. National qualifications allow you to move to any state in Australia and your qualification will be recognised when you are applying for work.

The initial step to gain recognition of your skills and knowledge is to phone Durack Institute of Technology on 1800 672 700 and you will be allocated an assessor who will provide a quick assessment of your suitability for the skills recognition process. They will give you advice on the most appropriate level of qualification to apply for. Qualifications delivered at Durack range from bridging programs to certificate, advanced certificate and advanced diploma level qualifications.
