SkillsWest Expo

To promote its services to the growing numbers of people opting for a trades pathway into the workforce or choosing to upskill for a new career, Durack Institute of Technology was represented at the Skills West Expo in Perth at the weekend.

The institute was part of a promotion organised to raise awareness of the training opportunities available in regional Western Australia.

Launching the three-day expo, Training and Workforce Development Minister Peter Collier said the event was designed to showcase the occupations and industry sectors in demand while providing a direct link for those looking to make a career change through training and education.

Mr Collier said the expo also raised public awareness of the trades as a worthwhile and valuable career pathway, and the renewed focus on training and workforce development would develop, attract and retain a skilled workforce for the longer term.

Durack Institute of Technology Managing Director Bert Beevers said regional institutes offered courses and flexible delivery that metropolitan colleges could not always offer.

“Nobody understands the demands of industry more than those who live among it, we in the regions are where the jobs are,” Mr Beevers said.

“Many people value the flexibility and affordability of a regional institute where support, first-class facilities and quality education and training are assured,” he said.

Mr Beevers said many people visiting the ‘Training in the Regions’ stand had been considering moving outside the metropolitan area, or already lived in the regions, and were examining their options for trades training to secure jobs.
